New stock just arrived, or if you prefer, 6071 is the same colour with a barbed hook.
This new fly first proved its worth on the Grafham bank in October/November 2016, accounting for nearly half of a total of 90+ fish in 6 visits! Since then, it has both stood the test of time and shown how well it travels - so much so that our stocks are regularly depleted by customers who (literally) can't get enough of them.
Tied with natural unbleached, white mink, rather than a rabbit zonker strip, the fly measures approx. 6cms from the eye of the hook to the tip of the tail. The use of top quality mink, combined with the complex tying to get this fly looking the way we want is why it isn't cheap. The joint is soft, ultrafine Gelspun which has an amazing breaking strain of 20lbs. The connection is longer than the mink it supports when the latter is dry but 'just right' when it's wet and stretches a bit. Barbless hook.
This pattern is unweighted and works really well when fished on the point with two nymphs on the droppers, retrieved with a steady figure of eight. This fly's success was again mentioned in Trout & Salmon magazine October 2018.
