Bonefish Bug Gold Sand
This fly - and the slightly darker coloured version - have been bonefish 'bankers' for me over many years and have accounted for hundreds of fish during that time. The problem was that they just weren't available any more - until now!
The biggest challenge was locating the strong, short shanked gold hook which is an integral part of the pattern (and I think can convert lookers - which have seen silver hooks before - into takers). Eventually, Google and I tracked them down in Singapore, after which the rest was relatively straightforward! The hook is actually a Chinu (Japanese sea-bream) style - and is irritatingly expensive. Fortunately the strong hook and synthetic materials used in the dressing make this a very durable fly. The epoxy head gives the fly a nice, medium weight and the hook shape/fly design minimises snagging.
Do pick up a few of these if you're heading for the flats - you won't be disappointed.
