Hot off the vice! - as featured in January 2024's Fly Fishing and Fly Tying magazine.
One of Colin Macleod's two very latest patterns - the other being Jaxon's Pink Shrimp.
Here's what Colin has to say about these flies:
'The Jaxon's Hopper was designed to imitate the semi transparent shrimp and fry which inhabit the margins of sand flats and sand bars, with the Jaxon's Pink Shrimp offering an enticing colour variation. Both flies feature a fluorescent tag and butt, which I firmly believe enhances the attractiveness of a fly for mullet. Who knows exactly what a fish can see but, combined with the effect of an iridescent shell-back and UV dubbing, the flies must create a close representation of natural food items, judging by their effectiveness.. I am often asked why a brightly coloured tag should make such a difference to catch rate with mullet. It could simply be that it makes the fly stand out from the crowd and become a target.'
