The Minkie just seems to get better as it gets smaller. It works all through the season and is at the peak of its powers from September onwards. This fly has been featured in several magazines and was Martin's top performing pattern on stillwaters in both 2014 and 2015, now still competing for top spot with our snakelets. Tied, like all our mink based patterns, on super quality mink from a London fur broker. We've tried it with and without the tiny red eyes but they really do seem to make a difference so - the eyes have it!
Fished on floating through to slow-glass lines (or a faster sinker if the fish are down deep) with a gentle retrieve. If you feel a tap, just keep the retrieve going, maybe a fraction faster, until it all locks up!
Do check occasionally that the fly's tail has not wrapped in casting - a bump from a fish will often do this too. The fly won't work once this has happened!

N.B. the mink strip on this fly is cut pretty narrow - the fly just doesn't work the same if it's too bulky. This means that it needs a degree of care in use - and casualties will happen. For some that price is well worth paying - others may feel differently.
