Snake Tan Taipan
This version incorporates a little flash (which won't tangle) at the throat and unweighted eyes rather than the commonly used bead chain. This means that you can use a line of whatever sink rate you like to achieve the right depth and then fish the fly as fast or as slowly as you like.
A steady retrieve is often the most effecttive - either a figure of eight or the 'roly poly' (which need not be at breakneck speed). If you get taps which don't immediately stick, don't stop, keep on retrieving, possibly a little faster, until everything just locks up!
N.B. Although this pale tan may not appear as obvious a colour choice as black or white, its performance on the water has made it our own favourite.
